 What a pain December 10, 2009

I had read good reviews about this drive and software, but it was probably a mistake to buy.
The box is labeled for PC / Mac, however, the drive was initially formatted for Mac, so I had to spend 2 hours reformatting the drive.
The software is not in the box, it is downloadable from their website, a key is included. There were about 4 versions of software, I had to spend considerable time trying and installing / uninstalling each until I could find the version of their software that would work with the key provided with the product. It was counter-intuitive from an engineer's perspective. If you have a Mac, however, it's very attractive and probably works for you in 16 seconds.
Last thing, the enclosure is comprised of at least 3 parts, base, seam, and cover. Once the drive was on for a while and heated up, the enclosure would flex / expand and a noticeable gap would appear between the seem and the cover or base. This is disconcerting, unwanted, and unattractive. You can even notice some gap on the self-image on the outside of the box and I mentioned to my friend before I purchased it, hoping it was just a poorly chosen rendering.
It gets 2 stars because it's just a drive in an enclosure. It did those two things perfectly. I've even put them together myself before, even a child can do that. But the headache of getting from 2 stars to 4 or 5 well-represented in my opinion. Good luck.

This external hard drive meets and goes above my needs for the device. It is easy to use (just plug it in), pleasant in shape/size/color and very quiet (slight hum when on). I have two main lap tops that my family uses (both Macs) and we shove off pictures/video and important school data onto the thing a few times a month. It is a peace of mind device to just know that your memories and work are saved onto multiple locations. What sold me on the device was a combination of the price, features and the "drop" testing they do of their products.

I had to reformat the disk for PC, and had to chat with a Iomega rep to get the retrospect. The device is very light and working well, and the service I received from Iomega was excellent. I strongly recommend it.
